Around the World: Flow Drill

Drill Description

  • One side of the ice goes at a time, alternate sides every whistle

  • On whistle, Player 1 & Player 2 attack the middle of the ice, Player 1 starts with a puck

  • Player 1 drops the puck to Player 2 and Player 2 quickly passes to any line

  • Player 1 & Player 2 keep feet moving and build speed around the NZ

  • Player in line who received puck, makes pass to another player in line (random)

  • Player 1 and 2 time entry into zone and receive puck from one of the lines

  • Players attack 2 on 0 for a shot on net

Key Teaching Points

  • All players at front of the line have potential to be in on this drill, keep head up and stay aware

  • Player 1 & 2 focus on moving puck and building speed through neutral zone

  • Player 1 & 2 need to time their attack, receive puck onside and attack the net in sync

  • Shoot for a rebound and stop in front of the net for secondary opportunities

  • Don't over-handle or complicate puck movement once entered the zone, practice shooting with a purpose

Demonstrated by our U13 AA team, this drill is a flow drill that focuses on quick passes, skating and timing. This drill can be used as a warm up and gets many players activated at the same time.
