This drill will work on footspeed, agility, control turns, and scoring.

SET IT UP:

Depending on skills and ages, set tires up equally from the goal line out to the blue line.  If you have multiple goalies and a large practice, split your half of the ice into two equal sections, and you can run 4 stations of this at once.

RUN IT:

On the whistle players start by going to the outside of the first tire. At the last tire the players do a control turn all the way around the tire starting on the inside.

The coach will dump a puck towards the slot and the players will compete for the puck.  The first player to touch the puck is on offense and the second player becomes the defender.

The defender can backcheck against the player with the puck, or attempt to get around to defend face to face.
