Providing players with tools for specific situations is useful. Here, Coach and Player Mentor Erik Keresztury and I create a multi-station simulation at the IIHA in Regensburg, Germany. It sets up a close-to-the-net situation for a U11 group. In the video, we provide a more traditional practical technique explanation with a demonstration to explain, demonstrate and then try and retry (EDTR) type model of coaching. We let the players experience and feel the flipshot technique for multiple reps and provide feedback as they use the skill. On successful attempts, we supply verbal reward and then, as a challenge, ask players to beat their previous "personal best number" to add a competitive element.
