As a subject matter expert, Coach Sutherland has contributed to the development of countless ice hockey players and ice hockey organizations worldwide (Canada, USA, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand). Malcolm has coached at multiple categories and levels of play, from initiation levels to varsity and professional. Malcolm writes and publishes materials and resources on athlete development, high-performance sports and training. Malcolm believes in an athlete-centred approach to coaching and has advocated for inclusion and diversity in hockey. He has presented at numerous symposia on many subject areas in hockey as well as on the prevention of serious injury in ice hockey. As a sought-after consultant on numerous topics relevant to coaching, Malcolm Sutherland has appeared on television, radio, and other media platforms. Behind the bench, Malcolm is a "player's coach" who leads through his uncompromising ethics and outstanding knowledge base. With an undergraduate Honours degree in Physical Education (H.B.P.H.E.) and a Master of Science Kinesiology (MSc. Kin.), Malcolm is a lifetime learner who, when he is not teaching and coaching, participates in continuing education and training. Along this path, he has earned advanced credentials with Hockey Canada, designation as a Chartered Professional Coach (CH.
