He played AA hockey until high school.
After high school, he went to the NAHL for a season and dominated.
The Winnipeg Jets took him in the 5th round of the 2012 NHL Draft
His work got him opportunity to attend UMass Lowell, where he dominated again.
The rest - truly is history.
-2025 Hart Trophy - NHL MVP
-3X - Vezina Trophy Winner (2020, 2024, 2025)
-Jennings Trophy winner for NHL's lowest goals against average (2024)
-3x NHL First All-Star Team selection (2020, 2024, 2025)
-Olympic Gold Medalist
At several points in Connor Hellebuyck’s journey, he could have been overlooked.
He didn't dominate at 9 years old, 11 years old and 14 years old.
He didn’t follow the “pathway" many believe or are brainwashed to believe is the only road to success.
He wasn’t rushed.
He wasn’t manufactured.
He developed.
This is the reminder youth sports needs:
There isn’t one pipeline.
There isn’t one timeline.
There isn’t one right way.
Development isn’t linear — and greatness doesn’t belong to a single track.
Let your journey be your journey.
Choose what’s best for your child, your family, and your love of the game.
