The center is responsible for playing in the middle of the ice, both offensively and defensively, and is a crucial part of the team's play in all areas.

A center in Ice Hockey will be responsible for covering the most amount of ice during a game.

  • The center is expected to be the deepest forward, often near the opponent's net.
  • The center is the first forward to backcheck, returning to the defensive zone and assisting the defensemen.
  • The center works with the defensemen to protect the net and prevent the opposing team from scoring
  • The center is involved in offensive plays, creating scoring opportunities and helping the team break through the defense.
