  1. Lower your voice - As they lean in and get close to hear your message.
  2. Get their eyes - Getting eye contact creates a sincere, honest and immediate connection.*
  3. Posture - Take a knee, bow, sit...change your dominant standing stance. This variation creates listening possibilities.
  4. Be clear and concise - Less words, say more. Avoid repeating unless for emphasis.
  5. Give choices - options build trust, leadership and group cohesion, but carefully choose options that drive outcomes.
  6. Powerful silence works - silence can be a disciplinary technique, a method to draw compliance and/or a way to emphasize a point.
  7. More is seen than said - rewards, incentives, gestures, and mentions are noticed by everyone. Players will seek rewards given.
  8. Stay calm - when most everyone is "losing it" staying calm communicates authority, powerful restraint, integrity and trust.
  • Consider, however some cultures may find direct eye contact as threatening. Know your group.
