Richard Hechter
About
Richard Hechter, PhD, is an educator, hockey coach, writer, and co-founder of Wheatland Hockey in Winnipeg. He brings nearly 30 years in education — as a teacher, university professor, researcher, and school leader — to his work on the ice.
Through Wheatland, a skills and player-development program that has now worked with more than 2,400 young athletes, Richard explores the intersection of teaching, learning, and hockey. His particular interest is in how ideas from learning science can help coaches design better practices, communicate more effectively, and ultimately become better teachers of the game.
That idea — the coach as educator — sits at the heart of his coaching, writing, and Coach the Coach work.
