Building on clearing the puck from down low, the Defensive players can skate the puck out, pass along the boards, or any combination.
As they are approaching the top of the slot, the end of the "red zone" then they can pass across or make other moves, which will allow the forwards the opportunity to move in various different different directions.
The defense moves up to the offensive side blue line. They are here to support the offense and to keep the puck in the zone, and to be ready to break back to defend their own goal.
As the F1 and F2, and F3 enter the zone, they can move and support each other. By passing, skating behind to pick up a rebound, or moving into position by the goal to get a tip on the puck.
Regardless of the way they enter the offensive zone, those without the puck need to follow the first skater in to support them. Make sure you stay on-sides though!!!
This drill can be enhanced by adding any number of defenders from 3 to a full 5 on 5. Also work on making the forwards weave as the enter the zone, causing their support to move and cover the spots left open.
