This drill is demonstrated by the Vancouver Minor Hockey Association, U15 AA team.
Drill Description
- Two defenseman start in front of the net as defenders, two defenseman at the blueline as offensive players. Forwards start in the corners.
- On the whistle, the first forward passes up to the D and battles for position in front of the net (with the D in front of the net). D takes a shot on net.
- After the shot is taken, the opposite line passes to the D and the 2 forwards battle the 2 defence in front of the net.
- After the 2nd shot is taken - the 3rd forward leaves with a puck and begins a 3 on 2 rush down the ice.
- Optional: 2 D in front of the net can join the rush for a 5 on 2.
Key Takeaways
- Ensure that forwards battle hard for inside position, Defense box out
- Offensive D should walk the line with their heads up and shoot low for a tip
- Once the rush has begun, ensure that the D keep a proper gap through the nuetral zone.
- This is a great oppurtunity to work on Offensive zone entries with the forward group.
