This drill is designed to emphasize forechecking, angling, and creating turnovers.

SET IT UP:

The coach stands at the blue line with a supply of pucks.

Two X players start behind the net and retrieve the puck when the drill begins.

Two opposite team players position themselves to forecheck with proper angles.

Additional players wait in line for the next rep.

RUN IT:

On the whistle, the coach deposits a puck behind the net.

The two X players retrieve the puck and must skate behind the net before exiting the other side.

The two opposing players (purple) immediately set their defensive angles and prepare to force a turnover.

If the Purple players gain possession - they drop back into their zone, and a third player from their team joins the play, creating a 3-on-2 advantage, and go on the offensive.

The shift ends with a goal or at 60-90 seconds.

NOTES:

The drill can be run continuous with line changes  on the fly, or shifts can be called for younger players learning their time on the ice.
