Popularized by Coach Dean Smith in the 1960's at UNC for Basketball, 4-corners passing while useful as a passing drill can also be used to work on shots, passing, and pressuring the players.
SET IT UP:
For this drill, we take 4 long barriers and cross half ice into 4 quadrants.
We push the barriers out, creating a space in the middle.
Each Quadrant gets a defenseman and a forward. They are the protector and shooter for these areas.
The aggressors (coaches) have a player at each corner, and one in the no man's land of the center of the barriers.
RUN IT:
One of the aggressors takes a puck and yells puck in, and passes to one of his other partners. The idea is to keep moving the puck around the outside while getting harassed by the D, supported by the forward. The Quadrant pairs want to gain control of the puck and attempt to score. The aggressors can score from the outside or using their man in the middle.
After each goal, move the players clockwise one quadrant.
