Does your team fail to generate shots or scoring chances off the rush and OZ entry? Want to generate a quick strike offence off entries?
Here is a GREAT set of drills from Adam Van Ettinger, Head Coach, Kungalvs IK U20 and U18 teams in Kunglav, Sweden.
By reducing the distance the offensive players are provided, they are afforded opportunites to attack quickly and generate shots without wasting time. As a progression to any of these drills a tracker can be added to help focus players on the quick strike concept.
2v1 Quick Strike:
- Puck carrier and defender line up facing each other half way between red and blueline.
- 2nd offence player lines up behind on the red line.
- On signal from coach the two offence players attack vs. the single defender
3v2 Quick Strike:
- Full line of forwards start in NZ
- Two Fs start on red line on each side of faceoff circle. 3rd F starts up ice on dot lan.
- Two defenders on blueline
- On signal Fs attack with speed
3v2 Quick Strike Short:
- Team splits in half on each side of rink.
- 3 Fs start on blueline with 2 D just above circle
- F passes puck to either D and that D passes back to any F
- When Fs get puck back from D they attack with speed
3v2 Quick Strike - Counter 2v1:
- Nets are moved to red line and goal line as illustraed in video
- Team is split in half. One group is positioned at red line, the other at the far end goal line
- 3 players from the far end attack while 2 players from the red line group gap up to defend. Quick 3v2
- On whistle, the two defending players look to coach for a pass and they attack 2v1 against a designated player from the attacking group
