This is the 3rd in a series of drills that provides a shooting progression that works on getting shots on net around traffic.
SET UP:
Goalie or obstruction in net.
Passers in each face off circle, with pucks. Can be pushed further out to make longer passes and more ice, or closer in to cause more awareness and sharper moves.
Cones to mark the starting point at the top of the slot, and act as an obstacle - with pucks.
RUN IT:
1(BLACK) the skater pulls the puck around the obstacle, (to the goalies right) passing to the right side passer once they have entered the face off circle.
2 (BLUE) skater immediately skates back away from Right Face Off Passer, and at the center of the obstacle, transitions and skates around to the goalies Left, shooting from the face-off circle.
Right Side Passer has the puck and passes to Left side one time, who then returns the pass BACK to the right side.
3 (RED) Right side passer sends the puck to the skater, who is moving into the Left Face Off circle, shoots from the inside of the face off circle.
This drill should be done slowly at first, to get the shooters progression set, then sped up to 80% speed. Important for the passers to time their movements to keep the shooter moving, and not allowing them to get flat footed.
This series, Push and Pull through traffic, can be done individually or modularly built on each other, putting all 3 drills inline together to make one continuous movement.
