In this drill, the players are playing separate 1v1 keep-away in the circle. This is to encourage competitive body contact (not checking) in a space that is chaotic, which will serve for better spatial awareness.
SET UP:
2 pairs of players enter each face off circle. Each pair has a puck.
Remaining players line up outside the circle, with extra pucks, and one designated point in case more pucks are needed in the drills.
RUN IT:
Have 2 pairs enter the circle and bring their puck. On the go, the lead starts to move around with the puck, while the defensive player tries to steal the puck, and uses body contact to attempt to gain possession of the puck. Players are to remain within the confines of the face off circle for the duration of their battle. If the puck exits the ring, the remaining players will send a new puck into the middle.
This all happens while a second set of players are battling for the same puck control.
Run 30-45 seconds then swap out pairings.
