Quick puck movement below the goal line makes defenders turn, shifts coverage, and creates opportunities away from the puck.
With SFU Red Leafs Hockey, we’re developing quick passing sequences behind the net, low east–west connections, and well-timed movement into quiet ice—open space where a player can receive and release before pressure arrives.
Move the puck. Stay available. Change the angle of attack.
COACHING POINT — MOVE AS THE PUCK MOVES
Time your movement with the pass. As the puck travels behind the net, adjust your position to create a clear passing lane. Keep your stick available and prepare your feet and body to shoot on reception.
Fast puck movement forces defenders to turn and find their assignments. Arriving as the lane opens gives the receiver a chance to finish before coverage recovers.
PROGRESSION — ADD PRESSURE
Add defenders and progress to 3-on-1, then 3-on-2.
Scoring rule: A goal only counts when the shot comes directly from a pass originating behind the net or below the goal line.
Encourage attackers to draw pressure low, stay connected, and time their arrival into open shooting lanes. Defenders actively pressure the puck, protect the middle, and take away passing lanes.
Shift the coverage. Open the lane. Arrive ready to finish.
