The Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) is now accepting applications for Assistant Coach positions for the 2026–27 season on our CSSHL teams.

For more than a decade, NAX has established itself as one of the premier hockey development programs in Canada. Our reputation has been built on a simple foundation: develop elite people, elite students, and elite hockey players. That commitment has produced exceptional results, with hundreds of NAX athletes advancing to Junior A, WHL, NCAA, U SPORTS, and professional hockey throughout North America and Europe.

What is often overlooked is that NAX has also become a proven development environment for coaches.

Many of our former coaches have gone on to opportunities in Junior A, the WHL, professional hockey, and other elite development programs, using their experience at NAX as a launching pad for the next stage of their coaching careers. We take great pride in helping coaches grow, learn, and build the skills required to succeed at higher levels of the game.

Why Coach at NAX?
Working as an assistant coach with the Northern Alberta Xtreme is far more than a volunteer or entry-level coaching role. It is an opportunity to be immersed in a high-performance environment where development is intentional, collaborative, and held to a professional standard.

As a member of the NAX coaching staff, you will gain experience in:

Daily on-ice practice planning and execution
Individual player development
Video breakdown and performance analysis
Team systems and tactical instruction
Bench management and in-game decision making
Communication with players and families
Strength and conditioning integration
Academic-athletic balance within a sport school environment
Our coaches work closely together throughout the season, creating an environment where assistant coaches are actively mentored and involved in every aspect of the program.

Learn From an Experienced Staff
One of the greatest advantages of joining NAX is the opportunity to learn under an experienced coaching staff with backgrounds in junior, major junior, collegiate, and professional hockey. Assistant coaches are not simply observers—they are contributors who receive meaningful responsibility while being supported by mentors who have coached and played at the highest levels.

Whether your goal is to coach in the AJHL, BCHL, WHL, NCAA, U SPORTS, or professional hockey, the experience gained at NAX provides a strong foundation for long-term coaching development.

Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking coaches who are:

Passionate about player development
Strong communicators and team-first leaders
Organized, reliable, and eager to learn
Committed to creating a positive, accountable culture
Interested in pursuing long-term growth within the game
Previous coaching or playing experience is an asset, but an outstanding work ethic, professionalism, and a desire to improve are equally important.

Be Part of a Winning Culture
NAX has consistently competed among the top programs in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) while maintaining an academics-first philosophy that prepares student-athletes for success beyond hockey. Our coaches play a critical role in shaping that environment every day.

If you are looking for an opportunity to develop your coaching career within one of Canada’s leading hockey development organizations, we encourage you to apply.
