DESCRIPTION: Two teams are divided with half in the zone (defenders) and the other half outside the blue line (invaders). Defenders take a position in the end zone and are not allowed to move once they are set. They have two pucks to protect as a team. Passing is allowed. Invaders attempt to out number opponent using stick checks or good positioning to intercept passes. Coach should be prepared to spot in pucks to keep the contest going.

KEYPOINTS: Defensive and offensive support is developed. Encourage work together to cut of passing lanes and for two against ones. Defenders use good passes, puck movement and smart timed passes. Individually they may decide to use puck protection technique. Head on a swivel looking for open passes and reading attackers is encouraged. Invader cueing includes stick on ice, pass out of pressure, look for open players. Open players should use verbal and nonverbal cues. On stoppages players may consider alternative locations for defending that provide “close support”.
