Drill Overview

This is a tight-area scoring and puck support drill focused on:

  • Quick puck movement
  • Net-front presence
  • Reaction time and second-chance opportunities
  • Competing in a confined space

This drill closely resembles a low-zone offensive activation scenario and is highly effective for translating skills to game situations below the tops of the circles.

How the Drill Works

  • All players must remain inside the designated cone area (as shown in the video).
  • Four attacking players begin at one cone, while the defenders start positioned in front of the net.
  • On the coach’s initial pass, defenders must allow the pass to be completed to the attacking team.
  • Once the initial pass is completed, the drill becomes live. All players are free to move anywhere within the cone area.
  • If the puck exits the designated area, or if the defenders gain possession and successfully skate or shoot the puck out, the coach immediately introduces a new puck to continue the drill.
  • The drill is performed with a total of three pucks in rotation.

Point System

  • 1 point is awarded for each goal scored by the attacking team
  • 1 point is awarded to the defensive team for successfully skating the puck out of the area
