Kungalv 3-on-2 Low

Generating offense from below the goal line can be challenging, particularly under pressure. This drill is designed to develop players’ ability to create scoring opportunities in tight areas by restricting their space to below the top of the circles. This constraint encourages quicker decision-making, improved spatial awareness, and rapid execution leading to scoring chances.

Setup:

  • Three forwards (Red Team) are positioned as follows:
    • Net-front player
    • F3 at the top of the circle
    • Puck retriever at the hash marks along the boards
  • Two defenders (Black Team) are positioned:
    • One at the net
    • One at the top of the circles

Execution:

  • The puck is placed below the goal line to start.
  • On the whistle, the puck retriever skates up to the top of the circle, makes contact with the defender (touching shin pads), and both players race to retrieve the puck.
  • The puck retriever must read the situation and react accordingly:
    • Skate up the boards and make a play to the middle (F3), or
    • Initiate a cycle with the net-front player
  • Players continue the drill for 10 seconds, focusing on generating multiple scoring opportunities.

Scoring System:

  • 2 points awarded for a quick shot or one-timer goal
  • Emphasis on speed of execution and attacking mentality
