This small area game has a number of variations that can be used to adapt it to any age and skill level.

SET IT UP:

On one end of the ice, set up 2 goals, facing the boards, just inside the face-off circles at the hash marks.

In each of the zones below the  goal line, one player from each team sets up.  Their area is from the trapezoid to the boards.  They cannot leave this zone during the active play.

The rest of the teams line up outside the blue line.  3 from each team line up in play.

RUN IT:

On the whistle, coach dumps the puck into play.  Each team must return the puck behind their own net either by puck control or passing before attempting to score.

The trapezoid players can help with the passing and setting plays, but they CANNOT shoot to score.

Shifts run for 90 seconds, or until a team scores.

VARATIONS:

You can change the teams up to be a 3 on 2 on the ice, with both trapezoid players

The 3 on 3 players can start on their knees facing the nets, eyes closed, and only jump on the whistle and have to look for the puck before they can engage.

You can enlarge the playing surface by moving the nets out more towards the blue line and run the drill on full half-ice.
