10 Second Tag is a tag game I use for all ages of youth teams as a quick warm up to get the feet moving and the heart rate up.

This game will get players using deception and quick feet in a small space. I play this one without any sticks.

The game begins with most of the players inside the marked boundary, which I usually use the boards and some pylons to create my playing area. Have a line of a few players standing outside of the boundary as shown.

The area created below is the size I would use for U11's. I would make the area slightly bigger for U13, and slightly smaller for U9.

The players inside of the tagging area are all trying not to get tagged. The rule is that when the whistle blows, the person at the front of the line becomes the tagger. They will enter the tagging area and tag as many people as they can. When an individual is tagged, they leave the tagging area and skate to the back of the line. After 10 seconds, the coach will blow the whistle. There is now a new person at the front of the line, and the rule still applies...When the whistle blows, the person at the front of the line becomes the tagger. The previous tagger is no longer the tagger, he is simply a player inside the tagging area, trying not to get tagged.

This game is fast, because they tagger is always entering the playing area after a rest, so they can come in with full speed.

The game is also called 10 second tag, but I change the time between whistles frequently. If my tagging area is depleted, I may blow the whistle every 2 seconds so that a few more players enter before any tags happen. If I have a not very strong skater who isn't as likely to tag someone, I may try to time the whistle so that the flee-ers are right close to the blue line. At the higher ages, 10 seconds is LOTS of time, so I would recommend going down to 5-7 seconds in between whistels.

This game has always been well received in my practices. Hopefully you can put it to use as well.
