A BOX OUT 📦 happens when an opponent is trying to infiltrate the slot area 🏠 (which a defenceman already occupies📍).

The ultimate objective would be denying their entry altogether 🛑, but we know that good forwards can find a way to roll ↩️ or juke around a box out if persistent enough.

Denying entry momentarily ⏰ is more realistic than denying entry altogether, Defenders must understand where the line is between taking an interference penalty 👮‍♂️and allowing the forward to pass.

Chicago players do a great job of delaying the attackers entry momentarily in order to keep the goalie site line open long enough for the shot to be delivered ✅
