Players are working on footwork crossing over or transitioning and crossing over backwards around the center ice circle.
The next person in line will lay out a puck for them to collect on the move. Then we add in the skating elements of inside edge, cuts, mohawks, and other edge work/punch stops, etc. that allow players to get to the middle of the ice to release a shot.
This is a blocked drill with no defenders or goaltender and a great place for the players to work on creativity and try new edge work to carry speed into the center of the ice.
We encourage the players to choose different routes every time and practice, different edge, skills, and shooting skills. A great drill to do at a high pace and then we would add some sort of live defense and pressure after this drill.
