Scanning is only one component when avoiding heavy checks. Scanning habits simply gather the required information for the processing phase. This is where coaching is extremely important...what players do with the information coupled with their technical training will either keep them safe or make them vulnerable. 

No one likes to see injuries like this, helping Players acquire the prerequisite skills to be efficient and stay safe in this scenario is key. 

Designing drills that have a scanning and awareness component can truly improve the player's confidence and performance come game time!
