This sequence was done with High School players. Great work for defensemen, can definitely be done with PeeWee/Bantam groups. Lots of details to touch on.

Players are working off the blue line. Focus was on detailed angles, finding shooting lanes, puck handling, and speed.

  • Players were asked to work pucks off their backhand to forehand as they pull across the line.
  • Players are told to stay as high on the zone as they can, maximizing space to work the puck to the middle of the ice.
  • Players are worked through game-like angles of attack to transition to receive the puck and work for good shooting angles.
  • Speed is encouraged, coaches are added to push pace and challenge the thinking and reaction.

Goaltenders are working on tracking, angles, and aggressive play at the top of the crease. Traffic is created with dummies to provide visual obstruction.
