Players begin in front of the net. Shot comes from a coach at top of the slot. If using a goalie, make sure player in front is working to take away the goalie's eyes. They should not be standing to the side trying to make tips, allowing the goalie to freely see the puck coming in. Players should have stick out facing the shooter, looking to make contact with the puck on either side of the body. Tipping up if the puck is coming in along the ice, and tipping down if the puck is in the air.
With this young age group, we were working more on trying to make contact with pucks as shots were coming in.
After first shot, player moves with speed to retrieve another puck below the goal line and works a pass to a teammate on the side wall. Then net front player works as fast as they can to the net front, to tip and screen for the shot from the side wall. This is repeated on the other side too.
