✋or ✋🤚on the stick?!??

Having the ability to extend reach and range is an important tool in checking/puck disruption toolbox. The old saying “never reach or lunge” is simply a byproduct of players receiving contact in certain scenarios.

If we adopt the rule of “ALWAYS HAVE 2 HANDS ON THE STICK” because of one certain scenario, it could limit a player’s ability to use that technique in another scenario where it’s the correct option.

In this scenario there’s no threat for the Detroit player to take contact, dropping the bottom hand off of the stick in order to extend reach and range for a disrupt attempt is the right play. On the flip-side, there are many scenarios during a game in which the appropriate Checking technique requires two hands on the stick and getting into the opponent’s body in a much more aggressive manner.
