Who's On the Ice - Goalie

The entire ice and the player positions are viewed from the goalies' net, so the left hand of the goalies is the left side of the rink. (The opponent team will be set up in the same fashion)

A goalie's coverage area is primarily focused around the goal crease, a semi-circular area in front of the net.   This area is where the goalie is expected to make saves, and it's a protected zone where opposing players can't make contact

The Crease:

  • The crease is a blue, semi-circular area marked in front of the net, typically defined by a red line.
  • It's the goalie's primary zone of responsibility and where they must be positioned to stop pucks.
  • Opposing
  • players are not allowed to make contact with the goalie within the crease, and the puck must enter the crease first before a player can enter.

The goalie CANNOT skate out any further than center ice.
