Recognizing the threat of an aggressive F1 on the forecheck, Vegas uses close support and a short reverse to beat the first layer of pressure. Rather than forcing a play up the wall or trying to skate through pressure, D1 draws F1 in and quickly bumps the puck to his in support.

That short-area support gives Vegas an immediate pressure release. By staying connected below the puck, the weak-side defenceman becomes a quick outlet, allowing VGK to escape the forecheck before F1 can fully establish body position or take away the next option.

Once the first layer is beaten, Vegas creates time and space to make the next play with control. From there, they are able to connect on an indirect stretch to the strong-side winger, turning a pressured retrieval into a clean breakout opportunity.
