Here is the practice plan for the Vancouver Angels U13 A1 team's first practice of the season. As it is the first practice with our team selected, we are working on quick pace using flow drills and small area games/battles, break out basics and D-Zone coverage and practicing our pre-game on ice warm up.

Not all of the descriptions have been updated, so I will drop some info for some of the drills below:

  1. Here is a great video of the Stick Tag - Warm up - this is a great warm up drill to get the kids moving, working on their edges in a fun environment. Highly recommend this drill!

  2. Next, we have 3 Greyhound varitations. Players line up on a 4 corners of the blueline and perform different skating and passing patterns. I hope the drill PDF explains those routes appropriately.

  3. The Slingshot is a great drill to work on quick passing and breakout habits in a small area. One player lines up at the bottom of the circle, another player at the top of the circle. A third player leaves from the blueline, passes to the downlow player, opens up for the pass along the boards before receiving the puck back. The player in motion then makes a quick pass to the player at the top of the circle, who quickly sends it back to the bottom circle player. The player in motion gains speed at the top of the zone before rotating into the slot for a final pass from the down low player.

  4. Breakout to 3 v 2 sees the players perform 3 breakouts, each time the group breaks out of the zone, they pass the puck back to the coach at center ice, who dumps the puck back in. After the 3rd breakout, the players pass to coach once more, before regrouping in the NZ, receiving the puck back from coach and attacking the 2 D for a 3 vs 3 rush.
