DRILLS AND PRACTICE PLANS

Tight Turns to Crossover Acceleration with Chaser

Tight Turn to Acceleration helps players transition into crossovers out of turns. Use the passive checker to build to a game like scenario.

Description

Coach has pucks just off the face-off dot.

Players line up on the face-off dot going towards the end boards.

First player in line leaves with a puck and skates towards the top of the drill. A passive chaser follows and gets their stick in the way so the player turns towards the corner.  The chaser again gets in the way encouraging the player to turn towards the top of the drill again. This time using their crossovers to accelerate to the middle of the ice and towards the net for a shot.

Player that started with the puck returns to line.

The chaser now goes back to line and receives a puck from the coach starting the drill again.

The next puck can be set for the following player in line once the player in the drill picks up the puck.

Key Points

Players should attack the net with crossovers once picking up the puck.

Player with the puck should start slow and be reacting to the chaser.

The chaser is semi passive and should be helping the player with the puck to react to their movement.
