Deception can be defined as the act of making someone believe something that is not true, hiding the truth, or using a trick to gain an advantage. Simply put, in sport, deception involves hiding our true intentions from the opposition to gain an advantage

Each player’s actions shape the opportunities for action available to the opposition. Therefore, the goal should be to hide our intentions for as long as possible, making it harder for opponents to read the situation and act with the best solution.

The more skilful and ADAPTABLE an athlete is, with multiple solutions available, the harder it becomes for an opponent to anticipate what they are going to do.
