Since this presentation was published in 2023, Cathy Andrade has continued to be one of hockey's leading voices in skating development. Now with more than 40 years of coaching experience, she remains the founder and driving force behind Power Hour Hockey, Northern California's first formal power skating program, and operates Extra Hour, a specialized hockey training facility in San Jose focused on skating and skill development.
Andrade also continues to serve as a skating consultant for the San Jose Sharks, while working with players ranging from youth hockey through the professional ranks. A longtime member and presenter with both the NHL Coaches' Association and The Coaches Site (including a masterful approach to edge control in 2022 as part of the TCS Global Skills Showcase), she remains committed to advancing the way coaches teach skating and helping players develop the game's most fundamental skill.
As you'll see, the principles Andrade shares about skating mechanics, player development, and long-term skill acquisition remain just as relevant today.
In this 22-minute presentation, Cathy and her son Cameron break down the skating patterns that separate efficient skaters from the rest. Learn how to eliminate wasted movement, improve posture and balance, stay centered over your edges, execute mohawk turns, and use your undercut effectively to create smoother, more powerful transitions.
