As a tribute to our collaborator and friend Daniel Broberg, creator of the immensely popular 7 Steps From Basic Skills to Smooth Power course, here's his countryman Rasmus Dahlin creating offence from the blue line in the 2026 Winter Olympics. Sweden would ultimately fall just short of a semi-final appearance, but it's still uncanny to watch the team play with Broberg's course top of mind. The skills on display look like they were stolen right from the course (maybe they were). Broberg uses the same wide stance to teach his drills as you see with Dahlin in these clips.
Here are some keys to note:
- In addition to the wide stance, watch how effortlessly Dahlin switches from inside edge to outside
- Dahlin's stick is always in a ready position to receive a pass, which helps him get shots off quickly
- There's an important clip that shows Dahlin getting the puck off the wall quickly on the blue line. Can you see it?
- His one-timers look a lot easier than they actually are, but watch how his feet are set and the full length of his edges are touching the ice
Everything starts with the balance and the posture, to quote Daniel Broberg. Sweden had a great run at the Olympics, we're happy for the entire nation, and we encourage you to check out the course to see how you can teach your players to skate like Rasmus Dahlin.
