How many times in a game that your players receive a bad pass that either in their feet, up in the air or even on their backhand? How many times have they received a bad pass and wasn't able to make a play with it right away? This is the perfect drill to work on these skills. We force the players to receive pucks in many different areas and making a play immediatly without stickhandling it.
We can start the drill off very simple (Video above) and the more the player become comfortable standing still, we can then add movement having players skate backwards while receiving the pucks, throwing pucks in the air and catching it with their hands or even bouncing the pucks on the ice.
Key teaching points:
- Quick / Hard passes
- Hands away from our body
- Always being ready
- Getting set right away to make a play (Get pucks set on our hip)
