Pittsburgh broke the puck out much cleaner in Game 5 versus the Flyers and was particularly efficient in weak-side defenseman retrievals. As the strong-side defenseman stands up on the puck carrier and forces a dump-in, the weak-side defenseman sprints back to retrieve it, scanning for pressure and support.
The strong-side defenseman can often be seen briefly holding up the incoming forechecking pressure, creating a bit of extra time and space for his partner. The Penguins also did an excellent job bringing F1 low for short support and quick second-touch options
