🚨 PENALTY OR SKILL ISSUE?
This one’s getting a lot of debate…
Carolina goes for a routine half-wall puck retrieval, misses it, and gets blown up.
At first glance, you could argue interference — he never fully gains possession.
But look a layer deeper.
There’s no scan before the puck arrives.
That means:
No awareness of pressure
No read on timing
No chance to protect or move the puck
So now instead of making a play, he’s guessing… and completely exposed.
At higher levels, this is the difference.
Retrievals aren’t just about getting to the puck — they’re about information.
If you scan early, you can:
• absorb contact
• evade pressure
• or move it before the hit arrives
If you don’t… this is what happens.
So what are you calling here?
❌ Interference
✅ Clean hit
⚠️ Or just a breakdown in habits?
