A great OZ sequence to learn from as you are working to develop young players in the game. This takes practice on each detail and then players to understand how this works in the game
1 - OZ rim past the goalie to a spot where your team can pick up the puck
2 - Cut back against pressure and low to high play from FWD to D.
3 - D resetting puck back in behind the net to a spot where your team has a chance to get to it first.
4 - Low to high again on the other side now. The D recognizes that there is limited options and puts the puck into a good spot for his team to get to it first again.
5 - Taking pucks to the net when the chance is there
6 - Winnipeg loose puck battles and again quickly working to get back to the net. This time with a passing sequence with a player popping out in the slot with his stick available.
This play leads to a GWG.
The ability to work the puck around the zone and challenge with plays to the net is impressive.
From a coaches persepctive, this is great! From a skills coach perspective, I look at this and think, "how can we teach players to do this more frequently."
Try to think about drills or topics you could work on in your practice to help players establish more offenisve zone time in your games.
