Focus on quality passing and legitimate information-gathering scans before retrieving the puck. For more experienced players, add some deception upon retrieval. Underhandle the puck, get it on the hip and get the eyes up for the next pass. Players should be communicating. After the 2nd pass, get into receiving position for a one-timer or soft receive and release (no dusting the puck). After the first shot, track the first pass from the corner and be on time driving the net for the second shot!
When adding deception upon retrieval to simulate hard pressure, use your toe caps, head, and stick to fake one way. These are the things an oncoming opponent sees and reacts to, so make it believable.
Help the players train in "hockey" mode and not "drill" mode. They need to visualize mini situations!
Can be run in 2 stations using 1/4 ice for larger groups.
