Drill description :

For the 1st rep the blue and red players will go on the whistle in the same time. We start at each sides of the ice to make it continuous. Once the 1st rep done, blue players will go when the red one reached the neutral zone’s red line.

On the whistle the 4 players go :

Red players :

  • Skate with the puck and shoot beetween the soft ice and the highway
  • Follow his shot to the net and make a stop and go to then transition around the cone (players must stay in the timing of the drill while in backward)
  • Recover the rim puck skate, behind the net and make a breakout pass tape to tape with the blue player
  • get in the blue line

Blue players:

  • Skate with the puck and perform 2 puck protections along the board.
  • Once done, the player must know if the red one initiated his transition to then rim the puck.
  • Skate through the middle ice to breakout the puck with speed. ( player must have a good timing to catch the puck with speed)

As shown on the drill, the coach can catch and pass the puck through neutral zone. We can even add a 2nd one to make pass from both sides.

I was inspired by the continuous rim drill for this drill.

Key teaching point :

  • Remember them to keep location of their teammates as much as possible during this drill.
  • Do not hesitate to stay out of this drill and use it as a reference exercise.
