A friend of The Coaches Site, on-ice presenter, and course builder, he made the trip from Sweden for TCS Live 2025 and shared this skills drill to hone posture and edge control.

Check out Broberg's TCS exclusive course, 7 Steps from Basic Skills to Smooth Power for more insights from one of hockey's top skill coaches.

Description

  • Place obstacles such as tires or bumpers on the ice. Players start at centre ice.
  • Players pick up speed and receive a pass.
  • With the puck, they perform a long inside edge turn, a short step forward, and another long inside edge turn around the obstacles.
  • Finish with a shot on net.

Teaching Points

  • Maintain control and posture.
  • Don't rush the edges. Hold them as long as possible, keep control of the puck, and add speed gradually.
  • Stay low with knees bent through each turn so the edge does the work.
