This is a simple drill I use in my club and with the goalies of the swiss junior national teams. It is a very good warm-up and aloud me to work on several little thing without taking too much time.
It works on foot coordination and quickness, and it takes very little time to run. Used regularly as part of a warm-up routine, it can contribute meaningfully over time — though like any single drill, it's one piece of a broader development plan rather than a solution on its own. It's suitable for both pro and younger, developing goalies, with intensity and speed adjusted to the level.
- The goalie starts at the post, executes a T-push to the top of the crease, and establishes set position.
- From there, working as fast as possible, he steps over the stick with the leg farthest from the starting post, then brings the second foot over the stick as well — two quick steps out.
- He then reverses the pattern, stepping back over the stick twice to return to the starting position behind the stick.
- Once set again, he receives a shot, makes the save, and actively tracks the puck all the way to the post — which becomes the starting point for the next repetition.
