This drill was demonstrated with the U15 group during the 2024 Tryout Prep Camp.

Drill Description

  1. Drill begins with the coach making a pass to either line.
  2. Player who received the puck, skates with it to below the divders and makes a drop pass to the opposite player.
  3. Once the drop pass is made, both players skate quickly to the top of the dividers and exchange the puck again via drop pass.
  4. Once the second drop pass is complete, player with the puck uses cross overs to attack the zone. Player without the puck skates to the net with their stick on the ice.
  5. Player with the puck can either make a pass through the dividers or take a shot on net. Once shot is taken and the rebound is played out, next group will start.

Key Learnings

  • Players must time the pass and ensure the player without the puck can get "underneath" for the drop pass.
  • Ensure players are calling for every pass.
  • After the second drop pass, emphasize the need for attacking the net and using cross overs out of the drop pass to build speed and push D back. Play with speed!
  • Shoot for rebounds.
  • Player without the puck... STOP AT THE NET.
