Description
Each team will line up 3 players on the red line and one player who will receive the pass off the breakout. On the whistle, both teams are to breakout their own puck as fast as possible. All three players have to touch the puck before they pass it to the designated player inside the circle. The first team to complete this task will win puck possession to go on a 3-on-3 in the other zone. The team that breaks out first gets 2 points; if you score, you get 1 point. Two whistles drill stops.
This drill adds game-like pressure as it's a race against time, but also against the opposing team. It practices breaking out with possession, gaining speed into the offensive zone, and communication.
As a coach you can add constraints:
- Backhand only
- Forehand only
- Adding a number of passes
- Adding pressure & more!
All other players not in the drill are inside the circle.
