1 Hour Team Practice Plan- Standard for All Levels with a Team

Make sure you communicate the plan prior to getting on the ice with your coaches, so that they can set up the stations
60-58 min- Free Time/ Hard Lap/Pull the Players in for a brief intro
57-47 min- Drill 1- Warm Up Drill- Get the players moving and goalies feeling pucks (some days depending upon the previous practice, we will go right into a small area game during this time to get the players focused and ready to compete).
46-36 min- Drill 2- Uptempo Drill that fits into the scheme for the day- Can be a 2v2 on Competitive battle days, or a breakout/ regroup on mid-week days
35-25 min- Drill 3- Uptempo Drill that fits into the scheme for the day- Can be a 2v2 on Competitive battle days, or a breakout/ regroup on mid-week days. Drill down into what you would like to see accomplished for the day, and advance the drill/ skill
25 min- 20 min- Shrink the space and make this drill a competitive small area sequence. 2 v1 down low in the zone to focus on scoring, or 1 v 1 in the corner. Maybe a 3 v3 in 1 zone to increase the competitiveness of the practice.
20min- 10 min - Special teams work or in- zone work. Focus on details what you'd like to see improved whether it be the power play or defensive zone.
10min- END- Small Area Game to finish the practice.

Head Coach should be skating around during the stations and giving tips and feedback to all the athletes as they do the drills

Always finish with something fun but also competitive. Kids earn their reward.

Allow them to get a brief water break after the warmup drill and after the small area drill around the 20min mark.
1 Hour Hockey Practice- Day Before a Game or Tournament

This template is for older teams- Post U12
60-55 min- Free Time. Open ice for skills and skating
54-53 min- Communicate with the group your goals for the practice and expectations. Focus on being sharp and crisp and prepping for the games ahead.
52-42 min- Drill 1- Warm Up Drill- Get the players moving and goalies feeling pucks
40-30 min- Drill 2- Uptempo Drill- Get the players moving, put them in scoring scenarios
20-10 min- Drill 3- Special Teams. Insert a special teams scenario or drill into this time frame. PP or PK with a focus on the details you are trying to incorporate in the weekend ahead.
10 min- 2 min- Small Area game that increases the tempo of the practice after the previous drill (which had more players standing around). Make sure there is passing and communication mixed in with a higher level of compete.
2min- END - Reward the group with positive feedback and details for the games/ weekend.
