1 Hour Team Practice Plan- Standard for All Levels with a Team

  • Make sure you communicate the plan prior to getting on the ice with your coaches, so that they can set up the stations

60-58 min- Free Time/ Hard Lap/Pull the Players in for a brief intro

57-47 min- Drill 1- Warm Up Drill-  Get the players moving and goalies feeling pucks (some days depending upon the previous practice, we will go right into a small area game during this time to get the players focused and ready to compete).

46-36 min-  Drill 2- Uptempo Drill that fits into the scheme for the day-  Can be a 2v2 on Competitive battle days, or a breakout/ regroup on mid-week days

35-25 min- Drill 3- Uptempo Drill that fits into the scheme for the day-  Can be a 2v2 on Competitive battle days, or a breakout/ regroup on mid-week days.  Drill down into what you would like to see accomplished for the day, and advance the drill/ skill

25 min- 20 min- Shrink the space and make this drill a competitive small area sequence.  2 v1 down low in the zone to focus on scoring, or 1 v 1 in the corner.  Maybe a 3 v3 in 1 zone to increase the competitiveness of the practice.

20min- 10 min  - Special teams work or in- zone work.  Focus on details what you'd like to see improved whether it be the power play or defensive zone.

10min- END- Small Area Game to finish the practice.

  • Using a template like this allows coaches to maximize the puck touches and reduces time standing around.

  • Head Coach should be skating around during the stations and giving tips and feedback to all the athletes as they do the drills

  • Always finish with something fun but also competitive.  Kids earn their reward.

  • Allow them to get a brief water break after the warmup drill and after the small area drill around the 20min mark.

40-30 min- Drill 2- Uptempo Drill-  Get the players moving, put them in scoring scenarios
