The High Performance 1 (HP1) certification is generally the mandatory standard for Head Coaches within the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), as it aligns with Hockey Canada’s development path for elite major junior programs. While Assistant Coaches may sometimes only be required to hold a Development 1 credential, the HP1 is highly encouraged to ensure coaching staff can effectively manage the transition of players to the professional or international levels.
