DRILLS AND PRACTICE PLANS

Zone Attack to Delay

Zone Attack to Delay is a great drill for combining turns and crossovers in a game like scenario. Encourage players to attack the net with speed.

Description

Coach draws a line near the barriers on the boards.

Players line up behind the line.

On the whistle the first player skates performing 1-2 crossovers to the middle. They then do 1-2 crossovers to the boards.

When they reach the corner the player moves off the boards and performs a delay before accelerating to the net.

The player then goes back to line along the middle barriers.

Key Points

Have players focus on bending the ankle to maintain contact with the ice on the outside edge.

Encourage players to listen to their outside and inside edges as they cross over.

Players should be trying to maintain a low stance throughout the entire drill.
