DRILLS & PRACTICE PLANS

Tight Turns to Crossover Acceleration with Puck

Tight Turn to Acceleration helps players transition into crossovers out of turns. Encourage players to get their hands in front of their body when picking up the puck.

Description

Coach has pucks just off the face-off dot.

Players line up on the face-off dot going towards the end boards.

Coach sets a puck near the wall to start the drill.

First player in line leaves and skates above the puck, they then perform a tight turn towards the corner.

The player then skates below the puck and performs a tight turn towards the puck. As the player performs the second turn they then accelerated out of the turn using their crossovers. Picking up the puck and skating above the circle to attack the net and shoot.

Player then returns to line.

The next puck can be set for the following player in line once the player in the drill picks up the puck.

Key Points

Have players focus on bending the ankle to maintain contact with the ice on the outside edge.

Encourage players to listen to their outside and inside edges as they cross over.

Players should be trying to maintain a low stance throughout the entire drill.

Players should attack the net with crossovers once picking up the puck.
