Stop, Start, Give and Go encourages players to move to open ice to receive a pass. Help players to get their hands in a side handle position to receive the puck.
Description
Coach draws a line at the top of the circle to indicate the starting point.
Players line up along the top barriers.
On the whistle players skate towards the bottom of the circle and receive a pass from the coach.
Player then passes the puck back then stops at the bottom of the circle.
The player then skates to the top of the circle, stops and then heads to the net.
The coach then passes the player the puck and they shoot.
Next player may go after the coach makes the second pass.
Player then returns to line along the inside barriers.
Key Points
Load edges with pressure by bending knees and dropping hips slightly.
Take off in the next direction by:
- Turning torso in the new trajectory
- Driving knee of outside foot
- Pushing off of inside foot (outside edge)
To assist with absorbing passes have players get their hands in front of their body.
